". .,', . - '.' . <br />. . - .' <br />. .. <br />".. ,'" '.' <br /> <br /> <br />December 4, 2006 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Approval of the Updated Engineering Standards for Public and Private Improvements <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />By resolution, approve the updated three volume document entitled, "Engineering <br />Standards for the City of Redwood City." <br /> <br />Background <br />Chapter 29 of the Municipal Code provides that certain infrastructure improvements be <br />constructed to standards set by the City Engineer. These standards require updating <br />periodically to conform to current codes and materials, as improvements are made in <br />technology and methods of construction for public works projects. <br /> <br />The previous edition of the City's "Engineering Standards" was updated)n Octo~r of <br />2003. These standards consist of three volumes: (1) Standar:d-,>, Tec.t)hical <br />Specifications, (2) City Standard Details, and (3) Design Criteria. These documents <br />help direct engineers and developers on the minimum requirements for designing <br />public and private street improvements. <br /> <br />Highlighted in this updated edition are some new or modified requirements, which <br />include the following: <br /> <br />}> New methods of specifying asphalt paving materials <br />}> Changes is water system installation, cathodic protection, and field pipe <br />wrapping <br />)- Combination Style Curb inlets (inlets that have both grates and curb <br />openings) <br />)- Change in parking dimensions to "uni-stall" to conform to Zoning Ordinance <br />}> Updated requirements for Stormwater Pollution Prevention <br />~ Water Demand Projection Criteria <br /> <br />The draft of these documents has been reviewed by the Engineering & Construction <br />staff, Planning staff, and the Public Works Services Department. Where appropriate, <br />the comments received were incorporated into the documents. <br /> <br />These standards will be maintained for publiC distribution in the Engineering & <br />Construction office, and on the City's web site. <br /> <br />Page 1 of2 <br />
