<br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />FEB 2 6 1990 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 11228 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF AMERICAN LEGION POST 105 FOR ITS <br />JOINT SPONSORSHIP OF THE ANNUAL OUTSTANDING CITIZEN AWARD <br /> <br />WHEREAS, fifty-five years ago, Floyd Granger the 1st Commander of <br />American Legion Post 105, conceived the idea of publicly recognizing the <br />person who over a period of time had been conspicuous for outstanding <br /> <br />performance in the community service arena, including areas of <br />philanthropy, child welfare, veterans rehabilitation and civic and <br />community projects designed to make Redwood City a better place to live; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the first presentation of the Outstanding Citizen Award was <br />made at the annual Chamber of Commerce dinner in 1935, and except for the <br />World War II years of 1941 through 1945, has been presented annually since <br />that date; and <br />WHEREAS, in 1978 the Outstanding Citizen Award became a special <br /> <br />community event sponsored jointly by American Legion Post 105 and the <br /> <br />Peninsula Times Tribune, formerly the Redwood City Tribune; and <br />WHEREAS, the year 1989 marks the "Golden Anniversary" of the <br /> <br />Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award, and this years winner will be the <br /> <br />fiftieth recipient of this distinguished annual award that has brought <br /> <br />recognition and honor to a deserving citizen and to our city. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that American Legion Post 105 is to be <br /> <br />commended for sponsoring the Outstanding Citizen Award, and for providing <br />outstanding community service leadership since 1919. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br />
