<br />6.2C <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council . <br />From the Ci P.1ana er <br /> <br />December 11, 2006 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Final Acceptance - 2005-2006 Watermain Replacement Project <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />By motion, accept the 2005-2006 Watermain Replacement Project, and authorize the <br />release of bonds and retention, per contract obligations. <br /> <br />Background <br />On April 3, 2006, the City Council awarded the construction contract for the 2005-2006 <br />Watermain Replacement Project to West Valley Construction Company, Inc. of <br />Redwood City, California, for the amount of $1 ,255,035.00. <br /> <br />Every year the City undertakes a watermain replacement program funded by the <br />Capital Improvement Program Water Fund. This program is designed for systematically <br />replacing water distribution system main lines, which have a history of service <br />disruptions due to age, excessive maintenance requirements, insufficient fire <br />protection, and/or capacity limitations. A priority list is reviewed and updated annually <br />by the City's Engineering & Construction Services, and the Public Works Services <br />Department, to determine the priority areas to be included in the program each year. <br />This years program included the replacement of nearly one and a half miles of <br />watermain at various locations (Le., along Spring Street and adjoining streets from <br />Maple Street to Chestnut Street, along Madison Avenue and Upton Street). <br /> <br />This project was designed and administered by the City's Engineering Staff. <br /> <br />The project has been successfully completed in accordance with the plans and <br />specifications for a total cost of $1,313,069.50. One change order was issued for <br />$58,034.50 due to quantity adjustments. which is 4.62% more than the original bid <br />amount. <br /> <br />Alternative <br />Do not approve the Final Acceptance of this project, which would be contrary to prior <br />Council action. <br />
