<br />DES:d~~ 02/06/89 (031/24) <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />--------- <br /> <br />N O. <br /> <br />lO~72 <br /> <br />OHiG/NAL <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ENDORSING CONCEPT OF BAY AREA RIDGE TRAIL <br /> <br />FEB 6 <br /> <br />1989 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, one of the primary reasons the San Francisco Bay <br /> <br />Area enjoys a world-wide reputation as a pleasant place to live <br /> <br />is the close relationship between the cities and the magnificent <br /> <br />open landscape of the region; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area Ridge Trail is planned to be located <br /> <br />along the ridgeline of the hills and mountains surrounding the <br /> <br />Bay, traversing all nine Bay Area Counties and the Santa Cruz <br /> <br />Mountains, offering an unparalleled opportunity to view the <br /> <br />region from its highest elevation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Trail will serve the needs of hikers, joggers, <br /> <br />equestrians, bicyclists, the disabled, families and many others; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area can serve as a model for the nation in <br /> <br />demonstrating how a major metropolitan region can capitalize on <br /> <br />its most spectacular natural assets and bring to all its residents <br /> <br />the opportunity to enjoy the beauties of nature close at home; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council is responsible for <br /> <br />promoting the establishment of the Bay Area Ridge Trail; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />1. This Council does hereby endorse the concept of a San <br /> <br />Francisco Bay Area Ridge Trail and the furtherance of the goal of <br /> <br />providing convenient access to nature's wonders in this area, <br /> <br />10972 <br />
