<br />DES:mmc< 10(6(88 (#23/032) <br />OCT 1 ,01988 <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />N O. <br /> <br />10918 <br /> <br />COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING FIRE FIGHTER DAVID <br />RAYMAKER FOR AN ACT OF HEROISM <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Fire Fighter David Raymaker, on the morning of <br /> <br />September 19, 1988, risked his own safety to rescue the victim of <br /> <br />a residential fire in San Jose; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, upon observing smoke coming from a townhouse <br /> <br />complex, <br /> <br />off-duty Fire Fighter David Raymaker stopped to <br /> <br />investigate and, learning from other residents that people were <br /> <br />trapped in the burning building, he forcibly opened the door to <br /> <br />the second story unit and entered in order to assist any victims; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dave removed an unconscious 25-year old man who had <br /> <br />been severely burned to an area where the arriving San Jose fire <br /> <br />personnel and medical units could attend to him and then, using a <br /> <br />garden hose, attempted to return to the blazing building to <br /> <br />rescue another victim, but was prevented from doing so by the <br /> <br />heavy volume of fire; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dave's courageous action was an act of heroism that <br /> <br />exemplifies the finest tradition of the fire service and of the <br /> <br />Redwood City Fire Department and deserves special recognition by <br /> <br />the governing body of this City; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council and all of the <br /> <br />citizens of this community hereby commend and congratulate Fire <br /> <br />Fighter David Raymaker for his heroic act. <br /> <br />DATED: October 10, 1988 <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />10918 <br />
