WHEREAS, meaningful resolution of the destructive competitive forces in <br /> <br />the health care industry requires federal and state legislation which balances the <br />need for complete, reliable and high quality medical care, particularly for serious <br />illnesses, irrespective of individual economic limitations, with the opportunity for <br />health care providers and insurers to recoup their expenses and obtain <br />reasonable profits; <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE; <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br /> <br />CITY, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> 1. This Council hereby expresses its concern regarding the harsh effect <br /> <br />upon individuals and, particularly, senior citizens, resulting from the recent <br />cancellation by a major health care insurer of its contract with the Sequoia <br />Medical Clinic in the City of Redwood City, and hereby urges the private <br />contracting parties to consider the consequences of their actions upon <br />individuals in making such decisions. <br /> <br /> 2. This Council hereby urges the federal and state governments, through <br /> <br />the United States Congress, and the California Legislature to enact, as <br />expeditiously as reasonably possible, comprehensive health care legislation <br />which provides meaningful, complete, reliable and high quality health care to all <br />citizens irrespective of their individual economic limitations, and which also <br />ensures health care providers and insurers the opportunity to recoup expense <br />and realize a fair return on investment. <br /> <br /> 2 <br />Reso-568 <br />DES:djk:rg <br />G:/Shared/Redwood/Council 13 540 <br />01107199, 01112/99R <br /> <br /> <br />
