ENTRY LEVEL--"I" CLASSES--Trainee or entry level professional <br />classes are for incumbents that typically have appropriate <br />specialized training with little or no job-related experi- <br />ence. Positions in this class level typically receive general <br />supervision from their supervisor, progressing to direction as <br />experience accrues. The designation "I" is used for this <br />class level. Positions within this class level may, within a <br />short time period, perform a significant portion of the work <br />assigned to the journey level class although they may not yet <br />be prepared to perform the full range of work assigned to the <br />journey level. Assignments are generally limited in scope and <br />set within procedural framework established by higher level <br />positions. They Derform the work under general supervision <br />while learning tasks, including learning to supervise staff. <br />As experience is acquired, however, the incumbent performs <br />with increasing independence. <br /> <br />. JOURNEY LEVEL--" II" CLASSES--Journey level professional <br />classes pertain to positions that perform a full range of <br />tasks and work under direct ion within a framework of estab- <br />lished procedures. At this level, incumbents work with only <br />occasional instruction or assistance. They may be expected to <br />provide direct supervision to subordinate clerical or techni- <br />cal staff and indirect supervision to other professional <br />staff, however the primary focus of the class is performance <br />of the work of the work unit. Work is normally reviewed only <br />on completion and for overall results. The designation "IIIl <br />is commonly used for this class level. <br /> <br />. ADVANCED JOURNEY LEVEL--NSPECIALIST" CLASSES--The Ilspecialist" <br />or advanced journey level classes recognize those positions <br />that are responsible for coordinating an assigned area of <br />responsibility as well as possess in-depth knowledge in a <br /> <br />7 <br />
