III
..

I

. ENTRY LEVEL--"I" CLASSES--Trainee or entry level professional
classes are for incumbents that typically have appropriate
specialized training with little or no job-related experi-
ence. Positions in this class level typically receive general
supervision from their supervisor, progressing to direction as
experience accrues. The designation "I" is used for this
class level. Positions within this class level may, within a
short time period, perform a significant portion of the work
assigned to the journey level class although they may not yet
be prepared to perform the full range of work assigned to the
journey level. Assignments are generally limited in scope and
set within procedural framework established by higher level
positions. They Derform the work under general supervision
while learning tasks, including learning to supervise staff.
As experience is acquired, however, the incumbent performs
with increasing independence.

. JOURNEY LEVEL--" II" CLASSES--Journey level professional
classes pertain to positions that perform a full range of
tasks and work under direct ion within a framework of estab-
lished procedures. At this level, incumbents work with only
occasional instruction or assistance. They may be expected to
provide direct supervision to subordinate clerical or techni-
cal staff and indirect supervision to other professional
staff, however the primary focus of the class is performance
of the work of the work unit. Work is normally reviewed only
on completion and for overall results. The designation "IIIl
is commonly used for this class level.

. ADVANCED JOURNEY LEVEL--NSPECIALIST" CLASSES--The Ilspecialist"
or advanced journey level classes recognize those positions
that are responsible for coordinating an assigned area of
responsibility as well as possess in-depth knowledge in a

7
