<br />I <br /> <br /> <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br />LIBRARY ASSISTANT I <br />L IBRM Y ASS IS TANT I I <br /> <br />DEF IN ITION <br /> <br />To perform a wide variety of technical and clerical library work related to <br />such act ivft ies as process ing library materials, ma inta ining one catalog and <br />assisting patrons. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br /> <br />Library Assistant I - This is the entry level class in the paraprofesSional <br />Library Assistant series. This class is distinguished from the Library Assis- <br />tant II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to <br />positions within the series. Since this class is typically used as a training <br />class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience. <br /> <br />Library Assistant II - This is the full journey level class within the para- <br />profess iona 1 Library Assistant series. Pos itions in th is class are flexibly <br />staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Library <br />Assistant I, or, when filled from the outside, require prior paraprOfessional <br />1 ibrary experience. Appointing authority will aDprove promotion to higher <br />class based upon the employee's ability to perfor.. substantially the full <br />range of duties for the class and meet the qualification standards for the <br />class. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Library Assis- <br />tant I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including <br />those that require the knowledge of general departJIent policies and pro- <br />cedures. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or <br />assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the <br />operating procedures and poliCies of the work unit. <br /> <br />SUPER VIS ION RECE IVED AND EXERCISED <br /> <br />library Assistant I <br /> <br />Receives inmediate supervision from higher level library personnel. Func- <br />tional or technical supervision may also be received from higher level depart- <br />ment staff. <br /> <br />Library Assistant II <br /> <br />Receives general supervision from higher level library personnel. Functional <br />or technical Supervision may also be received from higher level department <br />staff. <br /> <br />May provide functional and technical Supervision over less experienced <br />technical and clerical library positions. <br /> <br />63 <br />
