<br />( <br /> <br />( <br /> <br />HOUSING PROGRAMS TO DEVELOP HOUSING <br /> <br />Development of Housing <br />The State of California requires that all housing elements contain <br />documentation of the need to develop housing and programs to assure <br />development of housing. Specifically, California Government Code Article <br />10.6, SLction 6SS83 states that the housing element shall include: <br />M.. .an identification and analysis of existing <br />and projected housing needs and a statement of <br />goals, policies, quantified objectives, and <br />scheduled programs for the development of housing. ..M <br /> <br />In the population growth section, the City estimated that a total of <br />76,700 people ~ill need housing ~ithin the Red~ood City sphere of <br />influence by 1990. Many of these households will ha''/e decent, safe and <br />sanitary housing. However, in 1980 an estimated 3,S94 housing units ~ere <br />needed to meet the anticipated need to 1990. The City perffiitted <br />construction of 898 units between 1980-85, leaving 2,696 to be built <br />by 1990.
