SPECIAL ORDERS: <br /> <br />Presentation: Redwood City Public Library Children's Room Remodel by Library <br />Director Dave Genesy <br /> <br />Library Director Genesy presented a slideshow that celebrates the expanded <br />children's room and the newly created family place. He thanked the City Council for its <br />support through the Capital Improvement Program. <br /> <br />Proclamation: In Honor of Wells Fargo and John Adams <br /> <br />Mayor Pierce presented the proclamation thanking John Adams for his numerous <br />contributions to the community the most recent having recognized the potential for <br />and made possible the Wells Fargo Learning Center. The Learning Center is on the <br />ground floor of the San Mateo County History Museum, located in the Old Courthouse <br />at 2200 Broadway. John Adams and Wells Fargo secured a $200,000 grant from the <br />Wells Fargo Foundation that allowed the project to happen. <br /> <br />Keith Bautista, representing the San Mateo County Historical Association, stated that <br />the Learning Center allows the children in the community to gain not only knowledge <br />but pride in where they live. Deepest appreciation was extended to both John Adams <br />and Wells Fargo Bank from the San Mateo County Historical Association and <br />President, Mitch Postel. <br /> <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT <br />COUNCIUREDEVElOPMENT AGENCY <br /> <br />CALENDAR <br /> <br />CITY <br /> <br />John Ngai, representing the Redwood City Kiwanis Club, stated that there is added <br />stress during the holidays, particularly, for the underprivileged in Redwood City. On <br />November 18, over 1,000 members from the various Bay Area Kiwanis Clubs joined <br />forces with NBC Channel 11, Nob Hill and Raley's Supermarkets for the annual turkey <br />drive. This year, 5,000 turkeys, over 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food and $7,500. <br />were collected in the Bay Area. Of the 40 plus supermarkets involved and staffed by <br />the Kiwanis Clubs, the Redwood Shores Nob Hill Supermarket was acknowledged by <br />NBC Channel 11 as the location collecting the highest number of turkeys, at 350 along <br />with several pounds of non-perishable food. He stated that two Redwood City non- <br />profit organizations have benefited, the St. Anthony's Dining Room freezer and the <br />Salvation Army were filled with turkeys. As a Kiwanian he expressed his pride in being <br />a part of an international organization that improves the lives of children and families <br />in this local community. <br /> <br />Council Member Howard stated that the Redwood City Kiwanis is the same service <br />organization that runs the Farmers Market from April through November. She stated <br />that all the money raised through vendor fees goes directly to those less fortunate in <br />the community for such items as food, school supplies, and warm coats.
