Vice Mayor Foust and CouncU members Aguirre, Bain,
Hartnett, Howard and Ira:

At Genentech, our' philosophy about commuting is that getting to work should be
quick and easy. We strive to provide our employees with flexible and extensive
transportation options to help ease inconveniences that can be associated with
traveling to work. Notable benefrts include reduced traffic congestion, lower
emissions, and workers who are happier when they arrive to their jobs.

For these reasons, we strongly recommend your approval of a Redwood City
shuttle program for peak-hour commuters that would service local businesses.

We believe that this type of shuttle service would be very attractive to Genentech
and other local companies, who, Jikaus, would be willing to work with the City to
provide a reasonable 'financial investment to support the'effort.

Respectfully,

G~~

Rona Rios
'Transportation Programs Manager
Genentech, Inc.

1 DNA WAY, SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94080-4990 650.225.1000 www.gene.com
