<br /> <br />6.18 <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />January 8, 2007 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Agreement between Redwood City 2020 and Redwood City School District <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the Agreement between the City of <br />Redwood City, as fiscal agent for Redwood City 2020 (RC 2020), and Redwood City <br />School District to support the Redwood City Community Schools <br /> <br />Background <br />Redwood City 2020 has successfully raised funds in the amount of $412,544 to support <br />services at the four Community Schools (formerly known as Family Centers) and <br />Redwood City School District Child Development Centers. <br /> <br />The Redwood City Community Schools are located at Fair Oaks. Taft, Hoover, and <br />Kennedy schools. Redwood City 2020 fundraising efforts are focused on support for <br />each site's staff positions which coordinate the social, health, youth development. and <br />educational enrichment activities, and link them to the school day learning. These staff <br />positions are called "Community School Coordinators," and they are employed by the <br />Redwood City School District. The total funding raised from foundations for these <br />positions is $352,500. <br /> <br />In addition, other funds were raised to support the Redwood City School District's Child <br />Development Center efforts, which focus on creating high quality classrooms. These <br />funds provide professional development, staffing support, facilities, and parent activities <br />to the classrooms and impact 59 teaches and 688 students. These funds are from First <br />5 San Mateo and total $60,044. <br /> <br />Approval of this agreement between Redwood City and the Redwood City School District <br />will enable RC 2020 to fulfill its grant objectives for these various funding sources, carry out <br />the support functions as described, and take a leadership role in the ongoing coordination <br />and grant compliance of these funds. <br /> <br />Alternative <br />Council may choose not to enter into this Agreement. <br /> <br />Fiscal Impact <br />Funding for the program has been granted by foundations to cover the cost of this <br />Agreement. No City funds will be used for this effort. The City is serving as the fiscal <br />
