REPORT

6.1E
Page 1

To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City l'Ianaoer

January 8, 2007

Subject
Consultant Services Agreement with Moofe-Iacofano Goftzman, Inc. for Redwood City
Parks and Recreational Facilities Needs Assessment Study

Recommendation
Approve the Agreement for Consultant Services with Moore lacofano Goltzman, Inc. for a
Parks and Recreational Facilities Needs Assessment Study for $70,169.

Background
In December of 2004, the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department
presented our Strategic Plan to the City Council which outlined a number of key goals and
objectives important to ensure equitable access to safe and attractive parks. One of the
most important objectives in the Strategic Plan was to complete a needs assessment study
that would allow us to review demographic and recreation trend information and identify
locations for additional parks and community recreational facilities within Redwood City
based on that data. The subject agreement is for the creation of that needs assessment.

A selection committee of Park and Recreation Commissioners and staff found MIG's
proposal to be responsive within the project funds available and recommended that staff
negotiate an agreement. The agreement requires MIG to assemble data developed by
staff, facilitate community input orr the needs-of Redwood City; identify community and
industry trends, develop criteria that will be used for addressing underserved areas of
Redwood City, developing criteria to be used in determining the location of potential new
parks and community recreational facilities, and develop costs and funding sources for the
future. The project is anticipated to be complete within 9 months.

Alternative
Council could direct staff to not proceed with the- needs assessment at this time.

Fiscal Impact
Funding for this agreement is appropriated in the FY 05-06 Capital Improvement Program.

aver
Park , Recreation and
Community Services Superintendent

\. ;1--~

Corinne Centeno
Parks, Recreation and
Community Services Director

Attachment A - Scope of Services
Note: Full copy of agreement available in City Clerk's Office
