<br />(liY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />Local I-Mstory Specialis' 1 <br />Local History Specialis... 11 (Continued) - 2 of 4 <br /> <br />EXAMPLE OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Maintain and update catalogue files and inventories. <br /> <br />Organize and maintain all materials in accordance with oroper archivill preser- <br />vation methods. <br /> <br />Serve as library liaison to the Archives COll1llittee. Advise and assist members <br />with projects involving ,the Local History Collection, including preservation <br />techniques and proper useage of materials. Attend monthly Archives COlTlT1ittee <br />meetings. <br /> <br />Work with volunteer staff, including supervlslon of projects executed by volun- <br />teers, training volunteers for specialized tasks, and giving support to volunteer <br />s ta ff . <br /> <br />Provide the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs, <br />services, displays and talks which promote use of the Local History Collection. <br /> <br />Compile local history activity reports and statistics. <br /> <br />Participate in Reference Department meetings as appropriate. <br /> <br />Attend and represent the library at professional meetings as appropriate or <br />required. <br /> <br />Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff; prepare work schedules and provide <br />adequate staff support. <br /> <br />In addi.tion, a Local History Specialist Ills duties may include assisting in <br />developing the department budget, supervising other staff and being substantially <br />responsible for the Local History Collection and service. <br /> <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br /> <br />QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Local History Specialist I <br /> <br />Knowledge of: <br /> <br />Principles and practices of professional archival work including methods, <br />practices, and techniques of appraisal, acquisition, arrangement, retrieval, <br />access, classification, and preservation. <br /> <br />Library methods, techniques and sources. <br />Materials and services available in public libraries. <br /> <br />Ab il i ty to: <br /> <br />Perform technical and professional archival tasks. <br /> <br />Work well with adults and children. <br />
