IREPORT l <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and .C..ity Counci <br /> From the City Manager J <br /> <br /> October 28, 2002 <br /> <br /> Subject <br /> Purchase of One Skid-Mounted Sewer Rodder <br /> <br /> Recommendation <br /> By motion approve the purchase of one sewer rodder from VVeco Industries of Vallejo, CA <br /> under the cooperative purchase provision of the City of Fresno's purchase order <br /> #P053450AK in the amount of $62,067.52 <br /> <br /> Background <br /> Representatives from the Public Vvorks Services Sewer Section have been evaluating <br /> different makes and models of sewer rodders for the scheduled replacement of their 1973 <br /> sewer rodder. A sewer rodder is a high powered piece of equipment which uses cutting <br /> devices at the end of steel rods to remove roots, heavy grease and other debris from the <br /> inside of sanitary sewer pipes. Staff held several demonstrations evaluating the <br /> performance, maintenance requirements and safety features of several different models. <br /> Staff agrees the VVeco sewer rodder best meets the needs of the sewer section. <br /> <br /> Alternative <br /> The alternative of going out to bid would probably not result in any cost savings since the <br /> City of Fresno's purchase was the result of a competitive bid process in which several City <br /> agencies purchased sewer rodders from the lowest responsible bidder, VVeco Industries. <br /> <br />Fiscal Impact <br />Funds for the purchase of this replacement sewer fodder were approved and appropriated <br />by the City Council in the FY 2002/03 Equipment Replacement Fund budget in the amount <br />of $64,000. <br />(----~.~ /~ o,.~.,.,z-~, Peter ingrarns ~ices D~_.....-~ <br />Lar~c,~arwacz ~ Ed <br />Public Works Superiht'endent Public Work irector City Manager <br /> <br /> Attachment: None <br /> <br /> <br />
