Results of the 2001 Conservation Survey

The 2001 BAWUA Annual Survey included a survey on thc conservation Best
Mm~agement Practices (BMPs). The survey requested information on the following:

* Which agencies were implememing specific BMPs,
· Details on the BMP implementation methods,
· Reasons that certain BMPs were not being implemented,
Suggestions for ways that BAWUA could assist agencies with BMP implementation.

Thc BAWUA Water Resources Committee has used the survey results to evaluate
planned activities in the Local Resources Management Program for the upcoming fiscal
year. The survey results reinforce the direction of planned activities within the Local
Resource Ivlm~lgement Program.

Attached is a summary chaxt which shows the Percentage of BAWUA A~encie~
Providing S_oecific Conservation Services. The chart summm'izes the results from several
parts of the survey and some general conclusion can be drawn:

· * The areas of lowest participation include two areas where the Water Resources
Committee is plalll~ to provide assistance to BAWUA agencies:

l) Commercial, ln.~t, itutiol~lal and Illdustrial (CH) Water Use Surveys (Question 9.1)
has a low participation rate. The Water Resources Committee is examining ways
to provide assistance in this are~

2) Large Landscape Program (Question 5.1) has a low participation rate. The Water
Resources Committee is selecting a consultant to assist agencies with these
programs.

· Slightly more than 60% of the agencies are providing washing machine rebates
(Question 6.1), including eleven agencies that are participating in the BAWUA
Washing Machine Rebate Program in FY 2001/2002. This participation level is a
significant improvement over previous years (e.g. only 30% of agencies provided
washing machine rebates in 2000). BAWUA intends to continue supporting the
Washing Machine Rebate Program.

· Several BMP areas have high participation rates and require little if any support from
BAWUA.

The information provided by the Conservation Survey h~ provided the first snapshot of
BAWUA-wide conservation activities. BAWUA staffand the members of the Water
Resources Committee appreciate the efforts of BAWUA members to complete the survey
and look forward to next year's survey results showing additional progress.
