/O.D-i <br /> <br /> To the HonOrable~)f~nd Ci :CounCii <br /> rom <br /> <br /> November 4, 2002 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Adoption of the 2000 Uniform Fire Code <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />By resolution (a) determine that the local conditions require modification to the Uniform <br />Code and (b) approve the associated findings of fact; and by ordinance, adopt the <br />proposed changes to the Redwood City Municipal Code for Fire Prevention. <br /> <br />Background <br />Every three years the International Fire Code Institute publishes an updated edition of the <br />Uniform Fire Code. The Redwood City Fire Department has for many years utilized the <br />Uniform Fire Code as its principle guidelines for the protection of life and property within its <br />jurisdiction. Other national, state and local codes and standards are utilized as needed. <br /> <br />The local amendments to the 2000 edition of the Uniform Fire Code and the Redwood City <br />Code in the proposed Ordinance include: <br /> <br /> 1. Updating existing sections and references to conform to the publication of the <br /> new Code. <br /> <br /> 2. Section 12.9 establishes limits where storage of certain dangerous materials <br /> such as flammable and combustible liquids, liquefied petroleum gases, <br /> explosives, etc., are prohibited. <br /> <br /> 3. Section 12.23 giving the Fire Chief or the Chief of the Fire Prevention Bureau or <br /> their designees the discretion to utilize this and any other local, state and federal <br /> law to enforce fire and life safety issues. <br /> <br /> <br />
