6.1 C <br /> Page 1 <br /> �EPO� T <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit ; A�Iana er <br /> February 12, 2Q07 <br /> Subject <br /> Consuitant agreement with The Kastrop Group, Inc., for professional services related to <br /> the renovation of the Main Library's second floor and refurbishment of the heating, <br /> ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC} system. <br /> Recommendation <br /> By motion, authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with The Kastrop <br /> Group, Inc., not to exceed $66,500.00, to provide final design, engineering consulting <br /> services, and prepare construction documents for the renovation of the second floor <br /> and refurbishment of existing HVAC system at the Main Library. <br /> Background <br /> Reconfiguration/renovation of the second floor of the Main Library is intended to modify <br /> the existing physical space to better accommodate new service priorities. The Kastrop <br /> Group, Inc. is a qualified professional consulting firm that was previously retained by <br /> staff to identify design alternatives far fibrary areas. Conceptual plans have been <br /> developed which wil) make more e�cient use of existing library space. Space currently <br /> used to accornmodate paper media will be converted to better suit Project Read <br /> activities, incorporate a new Teen area, and provide 50 additional internet stations. <br /> These changes are expected to substantially increase patronage. Increased patronage <br /> will add demand on the existing HVAC system. As well, the HVAC system is nearing <br /> the end of its useful service life. The proposed agreement includes design services <br /> necessary to overhaul the HVAC system to ensure that the system continues to provide <br /> a comfortable environment for library patrons. <br /> Alternative <br /> Staff could request proposals from other qualified consultants. <br /> Fiscal Impact <br /> Funding for the design portion of this project has been approved and appropriated in the <br /> Fiscal Year 2006/07 Capital Improvement Program (CIP), and is inc�uded in #he list of <br /> projects that the Council authorized to move ahead. <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br />
