7.10 Acting Pay <br /> <br /> 7.10.1 The City shall, whenever practical, assign those employees who <br /> have demonstrated their ability to perform the duties of the higher <br /> classification in accordance with the criteria for selection in the <br /> Department Operations Manual. It is understood, that employees <br /> selected to perform the duties of a higher classification will be those <br /> who have achieved the top step of their regular classification. <br /> <br /> 7.10.2 Whenever a temporary vacancy occurs and it is determined by the <br /> City that the position should be temporarily filled, an employee may <br /> be assigned by the Rre Chief to work in the higher paid <br /> classification at a rate of pay which is ten percent (10%) above <br /> his/her adjusted hourly rate. <br /> <br /> 7.10.3 After a position has been temporarily vacant for fifteen (15) <br /> consecutive shifts, the City shall make a temporary appointment to <br /> fill such vacancy. Temporary appointment may continue for a period <br /> of one hundred eighty (180) days and may be extended by the <br /> Human Resources Director for an additional pedod of ninety (90) <br /> days. <br /> <br /> 7.10.4 For purposes of this Section (12) a "vacancy is defined as either an <br /> unfilled budgeted position whose incumbent is on paid or unpaid <br /> authorized leave, either one of which continues for fifteen (15) or <br /> more consecutive shifts. <br /> <br />7.11 Special Assignment <br /> <br /> Each employee in the classification of Fire Fighter or Fire Captain who is <br /> assigned by the Fire Chief to a forty 40-hour workweek while working on a <br /> special department assignment shall continue to receive compensation as <br /> outlined in Section 8.5. Umited-duty due to an industrial disability shall be <br /> considered a special assignment. <br /> <br /> In accordance with Section 9.3, special assignments shall not exceed ninety <br /> (90) calendar days, except by mutual agreement between the City and the <br /> Union. <br /> <br />7.12 Service incentive <br /> <br /> Effective .]anuary 1, 1988, employees with fifteen (15) or more years of service <br /> shall be paid a service incentive.
