returns to work a~cer any absence chargeable to sick leave, or as a <br /> result of an industrial absence or illness, the City may require a <br /> statement from the attending doctor that the employee is in fit <br /> physical condition to perform all the duties of his/her position. ~[n <br /> addition, the employee may be required to undergo a medical <br /> examination at the City's expense to be performed by a doctor <br /> designated by the City, before the employee is permitted to return <br /> to work. <br /> <br /> Sick leave shall be defined as the non-job related absence from <br /> work due to illness, bodily injury, exposure to contagious disease, <br /> and caring of family members whose illness requires the worker's <br /> care. <br /> <br />18.:t.3 Charge for Sick Leave <br /> <br /> Charge for sick leave used shall be on the basis of one (1) hour for <br /> each hour used; provided, however, that sick leave shall be <br /> charged for only those hours when the employee was absent from <br /> work. <br /> <br />18.1.4 Sick Leave Accrual Cap <br /> <br /> ];n the event an employee has accumulated the maximum sick <br /> leave credits of the one thousand nine hundred twenty (;t,920) <br /> hours and the employee becomes so severely ill that he/she <br /> exhausts his/her sick leave, the Human Resources Director may, <br /> upon written recommendation of the employee's department head, <br /> authorize additional sick leave to include any sick leave in excess of <br /> the one thousand nine hundred twenty (1,920) hour maximum <br /> which may have been lost due to the maximum limitation. Any <br /> such additional sick leave authorized by the Human Resources <br /> Director shall not exceed the number of sick leave hours the <br /> employee could accrue in a six (6) month period. <br /> <br />:[8.1.5 Credit for Unused Sick Leave <br /> <br /> An employee may elect to receive compensation in lieu of sick <br /> leave credits for any calendar year by requesting payment of <br /> unused sick leave in writing to the Director of Finance on or before <br /> December 1, of that year. Payment shall be made at twenty-five <br /> percent (25%) of the value of the unused sick leave for that <br /> calendar year, or fifty percent (50%) if no more than 24 hours <br /> have been used in that calendar year, at the salary for the year the <br /> payment is being made, and shall be made affcer December 31. <br /> There shall be no payment in lieu of accumulated sick leave <br /> benefits for years prior to such calendar year. <br /> <br /> 3O <br /> <br /> <br />
