November 18, 2002 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Redwood City 2020 Agreement <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Approve and Authorize the City Manager to Execute the Agreement between the City of <br />Redwood City, the County of San Mateo, the Redwood City Elementary School District <br />and the Sequoia Union High School District for support of Redwood City 2020 (RC <br />2020) for fiscal year 2002/2003. <br /> <br />Background <br />The City in partnership with the Redwood City School District, the Sequoia Union High <br />School District and the County of San Mateo formed Redwood City 2020 (formerly <br />known as Redwood City 2000) in 1995. The partners have been jointly funding RC <br />2020 since 1995, and this agreement continues that practice for another year. <br /> <br />Each of the funding partners including Redwood City has allocated $25,000 in their <br />2002/2003 budget to support RC 2020. In addition, RC 2020 also receives funds from <br />the following: $25,000 from John W. Garner Center, $19,310 from Peninsula <br />Partnership, $539,093 from Children and Families First Commission, $25,000 from <br />GoServ (AmeriCorps), $60,000 from the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's <br />Health, and $90,000 from Federal 21st Century Funding. <br /> <br />Redwood City 2020 has achieved many accomplishments since its formation which <br />include the following most recent accomplishments: <br /> <br /> I Facilitating the partnership between Redwood City 2020 and the John W. <br /> Gardner Center at Stanford University to create Y.E.L.L (Youth Engaged in <br /> Leadership and Learning) and produce the Redwood City Youth Budget. <br /> 2) Expanded the Redwood City Family Centers to Kennedy School and completed <br /> planning for a fifth Family Resource Center that will serve Gill, Hawes, and <br /> Roosevelt Schools. <br /> 3) Raised additional funding to support after school programs at school sites. <br /> 4) Facilitated the expansion of resources to Sequoia High School to support the <br /> creation of a Teen Resource Center. <br /> 5) Accessed funding to implement school readiness activities that benefit Hoover, <br /> Garfield Charter, Adelante, Hawes and Taft Schools. <br /> <br /> <br />
