<br />9A <br />Page 13 <br /> <br />ATTACHMENT 7 <br /> <br />Executive Summary <br /> <br />The goal of the Community Tree Task Force on Tree Policies ("Task Force") is to <br />review the City's policies, procedures, and practices associated with the living <br />infrastructure of both City-owned and privately-owned trees, and the conflicts that often <br />occur in the repair/replacement of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters and make <br />recommendations to City Council. The Task Force has achieved this goal and makes <br />twenty-four recommendations to the City of Redwood City City Council ("Council"). <br /> <br />1. Redwood City adopts a vision for the Urban Forest Program. <br /> <br />2. Develop specific and measurable long-term and short-term goals for <br />our urban forest. <br /> <br />3. lnventory and monitor the health of Landmark Trees. <br /> <br />4. Develop and approve an Urban Forest Master Plan as the overall <br />source document for all activities related to all trees in the city. <br /> <br />5. Officially designate the Public Works Services Department accountable <br />for the Urban Forest Program <br /> <br />6. Create a tormal process for tree related topics in the Community <br />Development Services department <br /> <br />7. Update policies and ordinances to match the desired results and <br />recommendations contained within this document <br /> <br />8. Update practices to match the desired results and recommendations <br />contained within this document. <br /> <br />9. Enforce public right-ot-way policies. <br />10. Create a Master Tree List. <br /> <br />11. Plant all existing vacant tree sites giving the resident a choice from a <br />Master Tree list. <br /> <br />12. Establish a Tree Advisory Committee. <br /> <br />13. Consider the impact on the property owner when making decisions <br />regarding permits for removal of nuisance trees. <br /> <br />14. Increase penalties for illegal tree removal by repeat offenders. <br />15. Create an ordinance to protect public right-of-way planting strips. <br /> <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
