December 2, 2002 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Adoption of the 2000 Uniform Fire Code <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />On December 2, 2002, adopt the Fire Code Ordinance with necessary local amendments. <br /> <br />Background <br />The adoption of the 2000 Uniform Fire Code was first introduced on the Council Agenda on <br />November 4, 2002. Although public comment was permitted on November 4, State law <br />requires a public hearing, which has been scheduled for tonight. The Redwood City Fire <br />Department has for many years utilized the Uniform Fire Code as its principle guidelines for <br />the protection of life and propecty within its jurisdiction. Other national, state and local <br />codes and standards are utilized as needed. <br /> <br />The local amendments to the 2000 Edition of the Uniform Fire Code and the Redwood City <br />Code in the proposed Ordinance include: <br /> <br /> 1. Updating existing sections and references to conform to the publication of the <br /> new Code. <br /> <br /> 2. Section 12.9, establishing limits where storage of certain dangerous materials <br /> such as flammable and combustible liquids, liquefied petroleum gases, <br /> explosives, etc., are prohibited. <br /> <br /> 3. Section 12.26 ,vin_c ~ Fire C,' .,-~f or the Chief of the Fire Prevention BureaUor <br /> their designee~ .ne d~. :etlon to uulize this and any other local, state and federal <br /> law to enforce fire ana life safety issues. <br /> <br /> <br />
