<br />DCB:sh 8/23/84 <br /> <br />the department head may be appointed temporarily upon <br /> <br />approval of the Personnel Officer, pending the qualification <br /> <br /> <br />of applicants by other means. Temporary appointment may <br /> <br /> <br />continue for a period of 125 days during a fiscal year and <br /> <br />may be extended by the Personnel Officer for an additional <br /> <br /> <br />period of 90 days. <br /> <br /> <br />An employee who has served in a temporary capacity for <br /> <br /> <br />six consecutive months or longer, and has successfully <br /> <br />passed an examination for the classification in which he has <br /> <br /> <br />served, if, in the opinion of this department head, such <br /> <br /> <br />appointment is warranted. Justification for retroactive <br /> <br /> <br />appointment shall be presented in writing by the department <br /> <br />head, and shall be approved by the Personnel Officer." <br /> <br />"Section 10. Casual Appointment: When there is <br /> <br /> <br />full-time or part-time work to be performed on a <br /> <br /> <br />non-continuous basis, a casual appointment may be made. <br /> <br /> <br />Such appointments shall not exceed 1,000 hours during a <br /> <br /> <br />fiscal year. Benefits, including, but not limited to, life <br /> <br /> <br />insurance, health insurance, vacations and sick leave shall <br /> <br /> <br />not be granted to nor accrued by casual employees and such <br /> <br />employees shall not acquire regular status for the period so <br /> <br /> <br />employed nor receive credit toward completion of any <br /> <br />probationary period. An individual given a casual <br /> <br /> <br />appointment may be discharged at any time by the City <br /> <br />Manager without cause and, notwithstanding the provisions of <br /> <br />2 <br />
