<br />Exhibit "A" <br /> <br />PROJECT ENGINEER <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under direction, to plan and direct the work of the City's 40 Year <br />Comprehensive Sidewalk Reconstruction Program. <br /> <br />JOB CHARACTERISTICS <br /> <br />Responsible for development and implementation of Redwood City's <br />Comprehensive Sidewalk Reconstruction Program, which consists of <br />Administrative, Preventive Maintenance (tree pruning and tree root <br />pruning programs) and Reconstruction (tree removal and replacement, <br />root barrier and root planter, curb and gutter removal and replacement, <br />sidewalk removal and replacement programs) services. The Project <br />Engineer may be assigned technical supervisory responsibility over <br />professional and subprofessional engineering personnel. Position will <br />require considerable public contact work including meeting with repre- <br />sentatives of public utilities, governmental agencies, private <br />contractors, consulting engineering firms, and coordination with other <br />City departments. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Supervises and directs the field activities of the sidewalk <br />reconstruction program; advises and renders decisions in the field on <br />sidewalk construction problems; prepares plans and specifications, bid <br />documents and agreements for City Council approval; interprets and <br />correlates construction plans and specifications; coordinates and <br />interprets City policies and desires to contractors on City sidewalk <br />reconstruction projects; maintains written and personal contact with <br />contractors to assure compliance with agreements, plans, and <br />specifications; prepares reports, deficiency lists, change orders, <br />extra work orders, and authorizations for progress payments; meets with <br />contractors to resolve problems that arise on contracts; is responsible <br />for hearing and resolution of complaints and grievances from the public <br />regarding sidewalk reconstruction activities. <br /> <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Knowledge of: <br /> <br />Principles, practices and methods of civil engineering as applied <br />to the planning, design and construction of streets, side- <br />walks, curbs and gutters and related municipal facilities; <br /> <br />Design principles, strength of materials, and stress analysis in <br />planning public works construction projects, <br /> <br />and <br />
