e <br /> <br />INVOCATIONS - <br />Reverend Linda McLain - Christian Faith <br />Imam Murtada- Recitation of Koran in Arabic language - Islamic Faith <br />Osama Elkady- Translation of Recitation - Islamic Faith <br />Rabbi Ezray- Jewish Faith <br /> <br />SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY - None <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> <br />Rudy Luca continued with his discussion on the subject of the November 6, 2001 Municipal <br />Election. Mr. Luca referred to the Cinema and skatepark projected costs and asked about <br />possible discrimination if allowing only Redwood City residents to use the skatepark. He stated <br />he thought the Council did not act correctly by denying the election and allowing for freedom, <br />democracy, process and representing the citizens of Redwood City. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Claire stated his reasons for voting to not have the election were not financial but <br />because the City has gone through three very contentious elections in the past. He further stated <br />that other cities in the County that have faced the same situation have in two cases, one due to <br />other issues on the ballot, went forward with the election. He stated that the process by which <br />the sufficient amount of qualified signatures was not obtained on the nomination papers is a very <br />important process and that the democratic process has not been thwarted at all. <br /> <br />Bob O'Brien expressed admiration and respect to the City Council for the achievements over the <br />last several years and complimented City Clerk Howe on her performance. Mr. O'Brien <br />recognized Council Member Howard with the first certificate for a Champion of the Urban <br />Forest on behalfof"City Trees". <br /> <br />Council Member Howard thanked "City Trees", a non-profit group whose sole goal is to plant <br />trees and make Redwood City even more beautiful. <br /> <br />7. CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> <br />Items on the Consent Calendar are considered to be routine by the City Council and enacted by <br />one motion and one vote.
