<br />r~M:djg-c 11/17/83 <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />N O. <br /> <br />9482 <br /> <br />ORiGINAL <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE DRINKING DRIVER HOLIDAY <br />APPREHENSION PROGRAM <br /> <br />NOV 2 1 1983 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, approximately 55,000 lives are lost each year on our <br /> <br />nation's highways in traffic collisions which involve drinking <br /> <br />drivers; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City abhors this senseless loss <br /> <br />of life and has committed itself to the prevention of alcohol <br /> <br />related collisions by participating in a vigorous program designed <br /> <br />to apprehend drinking drivers and to educate drivers as to the <br /> <br />effects of alcohol on driving capacity; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this Council desires to support the Police Depart- <br /> <br />ments of Atherton, Belmont, Menlo Park, San Carlos, and Redwood <br /> <br />City as well as the California Highway Patrol, San Mateo County <br /> <br />District Attorney's Office and the San Mateo County Probation <br /> <br />Department in their continuing efforts to reduce injury accidents <br /> <br />during the Christmas holiday period through the apprehension of <br /> <br />the drinking driver; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />This Council does hereby applaud the efforts of law enforce- <br /> <br />ment agencies to reduce the number of accidents caused by the <br /> <br />drinking driver and does hereby support the drinking driver <br /> <br />holiday apprehension program, and does further direct the City <br /> <br />Manager and Police Chief to inform the citizens of Redwood City of <br /> <br />its support of said program. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />9482 <br />
