<br />August 1983 <br /> <br />CO~MUNITY SERVICE OFFICER (NON-SWORN) <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under close supervision, to perform a variety of law enforcement <br />and crime prevention support functions; to review and report <br />requests for service from citizens, field officers, and other <br />agencies; to relieve sworn personnel from a variety of non- <br />hazardous tasks, to assist in traffic control, vehicle abatement, <br />youth services, evidence and property control, and to do related <br />work as required. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />As a Community Service Officer, may be assigned to and <br />responsible for the following: abandoned vehicles, removal <br />notice, tows, abatement; accidents, prepares reports, diagrams <br />and statements regarding non-injury property damage, assists <br />sworn personnel in traffic control and enforcement, animal <br />control functions, malicious mischief cases, auto theft, non- <br />hazardous control of unlawful burning, the enforcement of City <br />regulations and ordinances, the enforcement of property nuisance <br />ordinances, crime prevention activities, crowd control, reports <br />health and safety hazards, assists in the search and transporta- <br />tion of lost children, lost and found property, serves subpoenas, <br />vehicle transportation, assists in special assignments, and <br />does other related work as required. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Good general intelligence; ability to carry out complex oral and <br />written instructions; ability to learn to analyze problems and <br />take effective action; ability to learn to observe events and <br />emergency situations and retain details; ability to read and <br />write reports. <br /> <br />TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE <br /> <br />Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. <br /> <br />ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br />Possession of a valid Class 3 California Driver's License. <br />Age: 18 years of age at the time the application for employment <br />is received. Weight in proportion to height; normal hearing; <br />excellent physical health. <br />
