MONITORING VERIFICATION <br />IDEND IMPACT RELATED MITIGATION MEASURE implementation Monitoring and Timing Signature Date <br />v ~ Enti Veriflcation Enti Re uirements <br /> <br />v N (CHRIS) to determine whether the <br />~ particular project is located in a sensitive <br /> area. Future development projects that the <br />~ <br />~ CHRIS determines maybe located in a <br />to sensitive area (i.e., on or adjoining an <br />~ identified archaeological site) shall proceed <br />~ only after the project sponsor contracts with <br />pp a qualified archaeologist to conduct a <br />W determination in regard to cultural values <br /> remaining on the site and warranted <br /> mitigation measures. This includes, in <br /> particular, projects that are located near the <br /> one recorded historic-era archaeola,~ical <br /> site in the Precise Plan area (CA-StitA- <br /> 869H}. <br /> In general, to make an adequate <br /> determination, the archaeologist should <br /> conduct a preliminary field inspection to: {7) <br /> assess the amount of visible ground <br /> surface, (2) identify locations of visible <br /> ground surface, (3) determine the nature <br /> and extent of previous impacts, and (4) <br /> assess the nature and extent of potential <br /> impacts. Such field inspection may <br /> demonstrate the need for some form of <br /> additional subsurface testing. Alternatively, <br /> on-site monitoring of subsurface activities <br /> (i.e., during grading or trenching) may be <br /> needed. <br /> If a significant archaeological resource is <br /> identified through this field inspection <br /> process, the City and project proponent <br /> shalt seek to avoid damaging effects to the <br /> resources. Preserving the relationship <br /> between the artifact(s) and the <br /> archaeological context is the preferred <br /> manner of mitigating impacts to an <br /> archaeological site.
