Attachment 1

8A
Page 8

California Climate Action Registry is a non-profit agency that helps
companies, local governments, and organizations to establish greenhouse gas
emissions baselines, using any year from 1990 forward, to record emissions
inventory within the entities own organizational operations. The Registry has
developed a General Protocol and additional industry-specific protocols to give
guidance on what to measure, how to measure, the back-up data required, and
certification requirements. It offers software to do the inventory.

Sustainable Silicon Valley is a program of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group,
a !ocal multi-stakeholder collaborative. Their "Clean and Green" goal is to reduce
C02 emissions in Silicon Valley to 20% below their 1990 levels by the year 2010.
The program is a complement to the U.S. Mayors' Agreement, but it focuses on
the desired outcome, rather than compliance driven standards. Participants can
choose their own methods to reach that outcome. Each business, organization
or municipality picks their baseline year and their target. Tools and information
are offered on the website and at meetings. Participating cities include Los Altos
Hills, Palo Alto, Counties of Santa Clara and San Mateo, San Jose, San Mateo.
Each member reports their electricity and natural gas usage, they analyze fleet
vehicles and employee commutes. SSV conducts monthly meetings and holds
quarterly forums.
