88
Page 4

Redwood City is a diverse community in both culture and business aspects. The
community includes a deep water port, two hospitals, a jail, wild land urban interface, 17
elementary schools, two high schools, Tail ways, and two major highways. Redwood City
also serves as the County Seat for San Mateo County.

Accomplishments:
. EOP adoption
. EOC rebuild
. Communication enhancement
. Interdepartmental cooperation
. Training for department and city staff
. Community preparedness training

Next Steps:
. Enhanced training needs
. Infrastructure
. Communication equipment
. Develop 2-year plan with budget requests

The department focus has been on day-to-day service throughout this process and
emergency response continues to be our number one priority. Being prepared for the
routine emergency will enhance our ability to respond to the major emergency or disaster.
We are helping other city departments attain a similar level of readiness by utilizing their
everyday work skills in the emergency response mode. This preparation has helped all
responders perform in a productive manner in a major emergency or disaster. The work
done up to this point has been to identify deficiencies. We are working, and will continue to
work, to rectify these issues. During this process, we have also uncovered many strengths
which we are also working hard to enhance.

Fiscal Impact
Specific formal requests for program funding will be made for the 08/10 fiscal year cycle.

/20)
Lt1v/-

Ed Everett
City Manager
