<br />8e <br />Page 77 <br /> <br />Utilities <br /> <br />Natural gas, electric power and telephone service are provided by Pacific Gas & Electric <br />Company and SBC. respectively. The City supplied water to 23,039 water customers in Fiscal <br />Year 2005-06, and provides sewer services with 185 miles of sanitary sewers and 103 miles of <br />storm sewers. <br /> <br />Education <br /> <br />Public education instruction in the elementary grades is provided by the Redwood City <br />Elementary School District, which operates 16 elementary and intermediate schools, serving <br />approximately 8,022 students in the City. Sequoia Union High School District, in addition to <br />administrative offices, operates a high school, a continuation school and an adult school, <br />serving approximately 1,657 students within the City limits. <br /> <br />Post-secondary public education is available at three community college campuses <br />operated by the San Mateo County Community College District. Aggregate enrollment in the <br />College of San Mateo in the City of San Mateo, Canada College in the City, and Skyline College <br />in the City of San Bruno was approximately 25,322 in Fall of 2005. <br /> <br />Within less than an hour's drive of the City are San Francisco State University, <br />University of San Francisco, Stanford University, the University of Santa Clara, California State <br />University, East Bay, University of California at Berkeley and San Jose State University. <br /> <br />Public Safety <br /> <br />The Redwood City Police Department has 99 law enforcement officers, 9 community <br />service officers and 12 communication dispatchers. The Redwood City Fire Department has 62 <br />firefighters and officers and 3 fire prevention personnel serving from five fire stations. <br /> <br />Transportation <br /> <br />San Francisco International Airport (the "Airport") is located in an unincorporated area of <br />the County. According to the Airports Councillntemational, it is the fourteenth busiest airport in <br />the nation in terms of passenger volume. Although the Airport is owned and operated by the <br />City and County of San Francisco, it plays a very significant part in the economy of the County. <br />Air transportation is the County's largest single industry. It is estimated that over 29,000 people <br />are employed at the Airport by the airlines, cargo carriers, restaurants, aviation suppliers and <br />other Airport-related businesses. <br /> <br />The Port of Redwood City is also located in the County. The Port has a deep-water <br />channel and handles bulk cargo including lumber and scrap metal <br /> <br />The County is connected to downtown San Francisco and the East Bay by the San <br />Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit ("BART") District. <br /> <br />The County is also served by CalTrain, a commuter rail service between San Jose and <br />San Francisco, running along the Southern Pacific right-of-way. <br /> <br />A-15 <br />
