q. �-8 <br /> Attachment 4 ' <br /> Downtown Retail-Cinema Project <br /> Project Update . <br /> Chronology of events to date <br /> 5/97 Theater operators and developers make initial inquiries about a <br /> cinema multiplex in the downtown. <br /> Several meetings with staff are held over next several months. <br /> 8/97 Redwood City Elementary School District acquires 2107 Broadway <br /> (former "Way-to-go" parcel) with intention to remodel building for <br /> administrative offices. <br /> Developers and theater operators show interest in this site as <br /> potential cinema site due to its central location and proximity to <br /> .existing public parking facilities. <br /> 12/97 School District communicates to City Council its desire to be <br /> cooperative in facilitating the development of 2107 8roadway <br /> property as a retail-cinema project if they can find another site in <br /> the downtown area for their administrative offices. <br /> 1/98 City Council appoints subcommittee to work with staff on project. <br /> 2/98 City Council agrees to bifurcated process moving fonvard. <br /> • Part One — Negotiate acquisition of property at 2107 Broadway <br /> owned by Redwood Ciry School District (RWCSD). <br /> • Part Two - Define project area, develop design criteria, and <br /> prepare Request for Proposals (RFP). <br /> 5/98 Study session with City Council, Planning Commission, and <br /> Architectural Review Committee to gather input regarding project <br /> area boundaries and design criteria. Public comment also <br /> provided. <br /> 7/98 Cinema subcommittee finalizes project area boundaries, design <br /> criteria, and RFP. <br /> 8/98 RFdevelopment Agency Board approves distribution of RFP. <br />
