<br />"EXHIBIT A" <br /> <br />FIRE PREVENTION SUPERVISOR <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under supervision of the Fire Marshal inspects fire safety systems for <br />conformance with codified safety standards; insures conformance with <br />fire safety standards and approved plans in alterations, new construction, <br />and existing facilities; oversees the daily activities of the Fire Pre- <br />vention Bureau and does related work as required. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Reviews building construction plans and records; plans for and conducts <br />field inspections of residential and commercial facilities to assess <br />conformity with fire safety and other codes and ordinances and makes <br />recommendations for improvement; reviews, conducts field inspections of <br />automatic fire suppression and detection systems; coordinates building <br />plan review with other engineers and inspection personnel; provides <br />technical advice to other departments for permit approval of various <br />processes and installations; prepares and presents fire prevention <br />training to the public; explains design and engineering problems to the <br />public and suggests methods for improvement of plans and for compliance <br />with applicable regulations and codes; participates in training programs <br />for fire fighting personnel and the community; assists inspection personnel <br />in fire prevention inspections and makes recommendations for the resolution <br />of fire prevention problems; prepares and maintains a variety of complex <br />reports and records; reviews city regulations and ordinances and recommends <br />changes when necessary. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Considerable knowledge of fire prevention practices and principles; good <br />knowledge of laws and ordinances governing fire prevention activities; <br />ability to inspect building and construction plans; ability to deal with the <br />public courteously and firmly; ability to supervise the work of others; <br />ability to present facts and recommendations effective in oral and written <br />form. <br /> <br />ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br /> <br />Four years of responsible professional engineering experience in fire pro- <br />tection design or review. <br /> <br />Graduation from an accredited four year college with a Bachelor of Science <br />Degree, or two years of college with a degree in Fire Protection Engineering. <br />Eligibility for registration in California as a professional F.P.E. is <br />desirable. <br />
