Richard Holober, with the San Mateo County Community College District Board and Rosa <br />Perez, President of Canada College shared a PowerPoint presentation on the state of the <br />schools in San Mateo County. Perez thanked the Mayor for his work as a Mayor and the <br />Council for their previous support. <br />The team (Holober and Perez) shared statistics substantiating the benefit of this bond <br />measure namely the possibility of offering advanced degrees (4 year) at local community <br />colleges. While the colleges already embrace innovative educational methods, i.e. Internet <br />classes, it is their desire to augment the fields of study offered. Council asked some <br />questions about cost estimates. Perez responded to the questions and stated that the funds <br />being requested would be sufficient to improve the education and facilities that are in dire <br />need of help. It was also mentioned that the San Mateo Community College District was <br />ranked number one in the greater Bay Area, which is a very impressive statistic. Council <br />stated that the San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce also is endorsing this project <br />with their 1,000 members. <br /> <br />M/S Ira/Pierce to approve a Resolution supporting Measure C. The motion passed by <br />a unanimous roll call vote, with Claire and Jordan absent. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14397 ENDORSING PASSAGE OF MEASURE C A $207 MILLION <br />GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND FOR SAN MATEO COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE <br />DISTRICT; <br />Mayor Ruskin directed Senior Deputy City Clerk Ponte to forward a copy of said <br />resolution to Perez. <br /> <br />REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY MEETING (see other minutes) <br /> <br />9. STAFF REPORTS - <br /> <br />Status report on the energy retrofit program of various City owned facilities; <br />(Informational report only) <br /> <br />Gary Hover, Parks & Recreation Superintendent provided a PowerPoint presentation on an <br />energy retrofit program the City has embraced for the last year. The intent of the <br />informational report was to update the City Council on what City staff is doing. Statistics <br />on savings, and innovative systems being used were presented. The City is using these <br />new items in all its public facilities to save energy and become more efficient. The <br />presentation included information about the new products being used and different lighting <br />schedules that save energy. <br /> <br />Mayor Ruskin thanked Hover for his dedication to this project. <br /> <br />10.
