Poor water circulation results in excessive afgae and widgeon grass growth,
low oxygen content, and decaying vegetation during the summer months. The water
circulation pump statians force the fiow of waier around Mariin Drive ta promoie
increased water quality. Submersible pumps were placed in the reinforced concrete box
culverts, which currently cross under the roadway. The pumps are electric-powered and
computer controfied, and wi#1 only operate when necessary depending on the season
and tide conditians.
The contract for this project in the amount of$310,694 was awarded in January 2006, to
MKM Construction, Inc. of Santa Clara, CA. Construction was completed by MKM in
October 2a6; however the pumps were not approved for operation until Aprii 6, 2007
when upgrades to PG&E transformers, and installation of pump controE parts were
compieted by the pump manufacturer. Necessary repairs to a portion of the box cuivert
resulted in one change order for $19,744 (6.3% of the cantract price) and a tatal praject
cost of$330,438. Tre project conforms to the approved plans and specifications.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may elect not to accept the Water Circulation Pump Stations at Marlin Drive
which would be contrary to prior Council action.
F[SCAL IMPACT
Funds in the amount of $40Q,000.00 were appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2004/05 GID
1-64 Program Budget for this project.
— a--" _
.
C._ _..._ .a,, _
.,,° ,.-~-,
Paul Willis, P.E.
