<br />DIRECTOR OF GENERAL SERVICES <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under direction of the City Manager, the Director of General Ser- <br />vices supervises the employees and activities assigned to the Com- <br />munications Center, Automotive Services, Municipal Services Center, <br />Building Maintenance and Custodial Services, Warehouse and Central <br />Services. <br /> <br />EXAMPLE OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Supervises and coordinates: all communications activities of the <br />City, including public safety dispatch services, City telephone <br />systems and duplicating services; automotive repair, maintenance <br />and replacement; receiving, storage and distribution of supplies; <br />the ~lunicipal Services Center, including assignment of space and <br />insuring the security of City supplies and equipment, and City- <br />wide building maintenance and custodial functions. <br /> <br />Establishes work schedules and training programs; recommends reten-- <br />tion or dismissal of employees; maintains working relationships <br />with all departments; prepares the annual budget; formulates long <br />range plans relating to personnel and technological improvements; <br />coordinates communications with other state and local public safety <br />and utility agencies. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Thorough knowledge of the methods and procedures used in operating <br />a diverse Communications Center, applicable FCC rules and regula- <br />tions, and of modern radio and telephone equipment; working knowl- <br />edge of police and fire procedures; ability to establish and main- <br />tain effective working relationships with other agencies and the <br />various departments; ability to supervise, train and direct the work <br />of others involved in diverse activities; ability to coordinate <br />efforts of a multi-division City department, including Building <br />Maintenance, Automotive Repair Service and Warehouse Inventory Pro- <br />cedures. <br /> <br />ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br /> <br />Extensive supervisory experience in a multi-faceted serVlce agency, <br />with specific experience in the field of electronic communications <br />preferred, and graduation from a college or university with a degree <br />in electronics, communications engineering, public or business admin- <br />istration, or any equivalent combination of experience and training <br />which provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities. <br /> <br />"EXHIBIT A" <br />
