<br />JANUARY 1982 <br />City of Rewwdwood City <br /> <br />LEAD STOREKEEPER <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Supervises staff assigned; under general supervision to receive, store <br />and issue materials, supplies and equipment; to coordinate purchasing <br />activities at warehouse through Buyer; to maintain stock inventory records; <br />to supervise computer entries relating to automated inventory record changes; <br />and to do related work as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF CLASS <br /> <br />The employee in this class must possess skills and attributes for effective <br />supervision; accuracy in inventory control procedures, receipt and storing <br />of supplies and materials and issuing of specified classes of goods upon <br />requisition and possess a thorough knowledge of computerized inventory <br />methods and procedures. Oversees operations in the central supply centers <br />serving City operating departments and act as resource person on proper <br />inventory control procedures. In conformance-with standard procedures, <br />employee has latitude for performance of details of this work including <br />conduct of meetings with prospective suppliers of City goods and services. <br />Possession of foresight in anticipating City needs and usage rates to meet <br />requirements of operating departments is a prerequisite of this class. <br />First Line supervision is excercised over workers assigned to the warehouse. <br />The work is supervised by review of records and observation. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Supervises assigned personnel. Issues and makes records of stock items; <br />collects purchase invoices and prepares monthly and other reports of stock <br />received; maintains ledgers of all open order accounts and places orders <br />against them as required. Supervises entries in computerized stock records <br />as shipments are recieved; inspects materials received for quality and <br />freedom from damage; verifies entries in computer files for correctness as <br />parts, supplies, materials and tools are issued. Files copies of requisitions <br />and delivery sheets; helps in unloading shipments and proper shelf placement <br />of goodsrreceived. provides information concerning stock; supervises and <br />takes periodic and special inventories; provides centralized purchasing location <br />point; confers with Buyer on matters relating to purchasing, receiving, storing <br />and issuing of stock items; ascertains that adequate stocks of all items <br />are maintined; contacts vendors on overdue orders, goods shipped in error <br />and related problems; assignes tasks to assigned workers and supervises their <br />efforts. Responsible for the overall operation of the City warehouse functions. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE; SKILLS AND ABILITIES. <br /> <br />Good knowledge of computerized inventory record systems and storekeeping <br />'principles and practices; good knowledge of a variety of supplies, materials <br />and equipment used by Cities 50,000 to 75,000 inhabitants: ability to determine <br />conformance of goods to specifications; ability to make accurate mathematical <br />computations; ability to follow written and oral instructions; mastery of <br />first line supervisory skills and techniques; abiltiy to establish and main- <br />tain effective working relations with others; ability to prepare anal~tical <br />reports; good physical condition. <br /> <br />ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br /> <br />Considerable experience in stoc~keeping or warehouse work including computer- <br />ized inventory record and control procedures with an eductional level equiv- <br />alent to completion of the twelfth grade; or any equivalent combination of <br />experience and training whick provides the tequred knowledge, skills and <br />abilities. <br /> <br />"EXHIBIT A" <br />
