February 1982 <br /> <br />RECREATION SUPERVISOR <br /> <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Plans and supervises recreation program activities at a community <br />recreation area, or senior cent~r; does related work as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF CLASS <br /> <br />A supervisor in this class assists in organizing and supervising a <br />varied program: of recreational activities and senior programs at <br />community centers and recreational facilities. Participants in the <br />activities range from pre-school children through senior centers. <br />The ability of the Recreation Supervisor to _insure confidence and <br />to be accepted by all types of groups is very important; considerable <br />independent judgement and initiative are required in delegating re- <br />sponsiblities, controlling plans and projects, advising subordinates <br />and participating in long-range planning. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY) <br /> <br />Plans and administers recreation programs and social service programs; <br />supervises and administers the organization of speci.al interest groups <br />such as senior citizen programs; observes, evaluates and confers with <br />employees and volunteers to control a~d coordinate activities; selects <br />and trains subordinates; conducts meetings with staff; purchases and <br />maintains program equipment; organizes programs for various age groups <br />and arranges schedules and facilities for recreational and sports <br />activities; provides facilities for special instructors; prepares and <br />releases publicity information; publicizes programs through mass media <br />and direct contact; administers _the expenditure of funds; compiles <br />data to support budget recommendations; supervises and prepares rec- <br />reational records _and reports. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Thorough knowledge of modern principl-es and practices of communi ty rec- <br />reational work; ability to carryon an activity in a broad phase of <br />programs; good knowledge of community relations techniques; ability <br />to plan, organize and supervise the work of others; ability tO,speak <br />effectively on recreational and social service subjects; initiative <br />and resourcefulness in the solution_of difficult recreational problems; <br />ability to establish effective working relations with those contacted <br />in the -course of work. - <br /> <br />ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br /> <br />Considerable experience in professional recreation activities and <br />graduation from a recognized college with major courses in recrea- <br />tion, physical education.or gerontology or any equivalent combination <br />of experiepce. all9._,,~_J:aip~I)q...~l:1_ic;lLprovides the _ req:uired_ knowledge'"d -... .-. .. <br />skills and abilities. - - <br /> <br />EXHIBIT "A" <br /> <br />:~ <br />
