<br />. <br /> <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />Febru~ry 1982 <br /> <br />PARKS AND RECREATION SUPERINTENDENT <br /> <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Performs responsible park and recreation work in planning, promoting <br />and organizing the City's park and recreation program; does related <br />work as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS or THE CLASS <br /> <br />The manager in this class is responsible for assisting in the general <br />administration, development and direction of a dynamic, year-round <br />park and'recreation program for all groups, ages and interest levels <br />for the necessary facilities to make programs effective. The manager <br />functions with wide_latitude of administrative discretion within the <br />framework of broad polici.. established by the Park and Recreation <br />Director. ' <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY) <br /> <br />Assists in planning, organizing and directing a flexible program of <br />recreational activities for all segments, groups, ages and interest <br />levels of the City. Assists in determining the -need for additional -park <br />and recreation programs, and evaluates their effectiveness: determines <br />methods for implementing and promoting programs; provides training <br />programs for staff m~mbers and employees; makes recommendations cor.cern- <br />ing the recruitment and selection of full, part-time and casualemployeesi,- <br />supervises and coordinates special projects and events; assists in <br />development and control of the budget for the departmenti organizes and <br />promotes various programs and arranges schedules and facilities for <br />recreational and sports activities: prepares promotional material for <br />news releases and speaks before civic and special interest groups on <br />the City's parks and recreation programs; prepares or directs the <br />preparation of periodic and special reports; acts as Director in absence <br />of Department Director. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Thorough knowledge of all phases of City recreation and park admini- <br />stration; thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of park <br />and recreation planning and development; ability to develop-and execute <br />a well-rounded program of recreational activities; ability to supervise <br />the work of others; ability to write and speak in a clear and concise <br />form; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships <br />with those contaced in the course of work; ability to interpret effec- <br />tively the policies of the Park and Recreation Department to employees <br />and the public. <br /> <br />ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br /> <br />Extensive experience as a park or recreation supervisor in a community <br />based organization and graduationfrbm college with a degree' in recreation <br />or park.management; or any equivalent combination of experience and <br />training,which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. <br /> <br />EXHIBIT "A" <br />
