asked that Council delay voting in favor of the stop signs until a more viable solution <br />is found. <br />Nancy Foss lives in the area and the stop sign on Vera Avenue and stated that the <br />way Hudson Street is situation coming from Roosevelt; the sidewalk appears to be <br />further out than on the side towards Jefferson. In order to come through the stop <br />sign, she must pull out very slowly because when cars are on both sides she is in <br />danger of being hit. She stated that a stop sign at Hudson Street would get people <br />to slow down some so that people can get across. <br />Council Members asked questions related to increased volume to avoid the <br />additional signage, an explanation of alternatives, and whether Hawes School was <br />contacted to determine the number of children crossing Vera and Hudson. <br />Mayor Pierce stated that a letter from Mr. Miller was received stating he would be in <br />favor of the proposed stop sign and had actually been involved in an accident at the <br />intersection. <br />Council comments included that not all traffic calming situation are not actually <br />controversial, and concern with accidents component. <br />M/S Foust/Bain to approve Alternative 1: In lieu of proposed stop signs, place <br />intersection warning signs with "Cross Traffic Does Not Stop" supplementary plates <br />or other similar warning signs on existing stop signs on Vera Avenue approaches at <br />the intersection with Hudson Street and extend red curb at the corners to improve <br />visibility. Explore the solar powered signs displaying speeds for Hudson Street to <br />slow drivers down with staff to return to Council in approximately six months with <br />accident statistics and feedback from neighbors. The motion passed by a majority <br />roll call vote with Council Members Howard and Ira voting no. PUBLIC HEARING - <br />A. 885 Woodside Road Precise Plan <br />City Attorney Aranda clarified that Council consideration pertains to the Precise <br />Plan and Council is not being asked to act on the rezoning or to reconsider the <br />mitigated negative declaration approved at the Planning Commission on November <br />28, 2006.
