5. SPECIAL ORDERS: Proclamation -National Historic Preservation Month: Mayor Pierce asked Chairperson Kenneth Rolandelli of the Historic Resources Advisory Committee to join her at the podium. She stated that the City of Redwood City is a very old town, has had a very long history, and part of what makes it great is preserving and respecting its history. Mayor Pierce read the proclamation proclaiming and joining the rest of the Nation in observing May as National Historic Preservation Month. Chair Rolandelli thanked the Mayor and Council for the proclamation and talked about some of the activities planned for Preservation month, including a Union Cemetery and a downtown Historic Walking Tour. He stated that the celebration of National Historic Preservation Month is made possible by the generous sponsorship of a number of individuals, businesses, and community organizations and he thanked City Council for the proclamation. 6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR - CITY COUNCIL/REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD/PUBLIC FINANCING AUTHORITY Esli Agripino stated that she is a student, is supporting two younger siblings, and that she is here today because her mom was recently deported. She is trying to find a way to bring her mother back. She stated that what has happened to her family and others like them is wrong and that justice is needed. She asked for deportations to be stopped and do not divide families. Juan Arias stated that he is here as a representative of the Young Latino Leaders of Canada Community College and that he wanted to share a point of view of how immigrant students feel about race within their own community. He stated that that they do not feel the same sense of security as any other normal teen or young adult when they go out. He stated that he thought it is beautiful that in this room everyone is hearing one another out. He asked for help in encouraging people to help them make Redwood City arace-free zone. Nicholas Brooks stated his concerns regarding the enforcement of immigration laws with tougher penalties, the security of the nation's borders, and the nation's sovereignty. He asked that the Police Department be trained in proper procedures to enforce our immigration laws. Noel Chavez stated that he is a student at Canada College and is representing the Young Leaders in the Boys of Latinos. He then continued his comments in Spanish.
