CALL TO ORDER - 6:05 p.m. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />3. PUBLIC COMMENT <br />Patricia Moore presented to the Office of the Mayor a gift and greetings from Zhuhai, <br />China. She talked about both the differences and similarities between Redwood City <br />and Zhuhai. She further suggested that Redwood City consider a program that Zhuhai <br />has implemented with both its sister cities in Japan and Korea. The program consists of <br />Zhuhai students, aged 13-15 years, visiting during July and August. The students would <br />pay for their travel expenses and a host family would provide room and board during <br />that time. The visits would provide the students with the opportunity to be shown life in <br />America and to practice English skills. Ms. Moore suggested another program that <br />involves teaching opportunities in Zhuhai at the college level. She has participated in a <br />4-6 months program, that requires a PhD or Masters, to teach in the topics of Finance, <br />Accounting, Business Law, and Management. <br />Joe Webb read an excerpt on statistics from a document entitled, "Hispanics - A <br />Statistical Portrait", by New Century Foundation, Oakton, VA 22124. He referred to <br />page 2 of the document and cited various statistics. He stated that both the Redwood <br />City Police Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office had no statistics on <br />crime by race available. <br />DRAFT - <br />NOT FOR CITATION <br />
