B. Appointments to City Council-appointed Boards, Committees, and <br />Commission <br />Mayor Pierce stated that the Board, Committee and Commission members play a <br />key role that often includes doing the groundwork, advising for expenditure of <br />funds, and setting direction for the community. Redwood City is fortunate to have <br />so many people that have volunteered to serve in a long and distinguished <br />manner. It is the Council's task to ensure that the community going forward is <br />vibrant and caring, that they provide the most diverse leadership, and the best set <br />of opinions. She acknowledged the current members who have served and <br />thanked them for their work, ensuring them that there are many opportunities in <br />the future for them to be involved. The decisions tonight are to ensure that <br />Redwood City, as a community, has the skills to move forward and prepare for <br />the future. <br />1. Home Improvement Loan Committee (4 seats, one vacant term expiring May 31, <br />2009 and three terms expiring May 31, 2010). Applicants are listed in <br />alphabetical order <br />City Clerk Howe called for a roll call vote with each Council Member voting for up <br />to four applicants. Council Members agreed that the three applicants receiving the <br />highest votes will serve in the full terms and the fourth place will fulfill the vacant <br />term. The following is the tally of the vote. <br />• Neil Call -Council Members Aguirre, Bain, Hartnett, Howard, Ira, Vice Mayor <br />Foust and Mayor Pierce <br />• Sarah Lewis -Council Members Aguirre, Bain and Mayor Pierce <br />• Craig Robinson -Council Members Aguirre, Bain, Hartnett, Howard, Ira, Vice <br />Mayor Foust and Mayor Pierce <br />• Abdoulah (Abdei) Shekarchi -Council Members Aguirre, Howard, Ira and <br />Vice Mayor Foust <br />• William Warhurst -Council Members Bain, Hartnett, Howard, Ira, Vice Mayor <br />Foust and Mayor Pierce <br />Additional applicants with the Home Improvement Loan Committee as the 2"d <br />choice: <br />• Chester Ruiz -Council Member Hartnett <br />The successful applicants were Neil Call, Craig Robinson, and William <br />Warhurst appointed to serve terms expiring May 31, 2010; and Abdoulah <br />(Abdei) Shekarchi appointed to serve in the vacant seat expiring May 31, 2009. <br />2. Library Board (1 seat expiring June 30, 2010) <br />City Clerk Howe called for a roll call vote with each Council Member voting for <br />one applicant.
