3. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE — Barbara Pierce, Mayor <br />4. INVOCATION — Pastor Jeff Henderson, Believers in Christ Church of God <br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS: <br />Proclamation — National Historic Preservation Month: <br />Mayor Pierce asked Chairperson Kenneth Rolandelli of the Historic Resources Advisory <br />Committee to join her at the podium. She stated that the City of Redwood City is a very <br />old town, has had a very long history, and part of what makes it great is preserving and <br />respecting its history. Mayor Pierce read the proclamation proclaiming and joining the <br />rest of the Nation in observing May as National Historic Preservation Month. <br />Chair Rolandelli thanked the Mayor and Council for the proclamation and talked about <br />some of the activities planned for Preservation month, including a Union Cemetery and <br />a downtown Historic Walking Tour. He stated that the celebration of National Historic <br />Preservation Month is made possible by the generous sponsorship of a number of <br />individuals, businesses, and community organizations and he thanked City Council for <br />the proclamation. <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR - CITY <br />COUNCIL /REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD /PUBLIC FINANCING AUTHORITY <br />Esli Agripino stated that she is a student, is supporting two younger siblings, and that <br />she is here today because her mom was recently deported. She is trying to find a way <br />to bring her mother back. She stated that what has happened to her family and others <br />like them is wrong and that justice is needed. She asked for deportations to be stopped <br />and do not divide families. <br />Juan Arias stated that he is here as a representative of the Young Latino Leaders of <br />Canada Community College and that he wanted to share a point of view of how <br />immigrant students feel about race within their own community. He stated that that they <br />do not feel the same sense of security as any other normal teen or young adult when <br />they go out. He stated that he thought it is beautiful that in this room everyone is <br />hearing one another out. He asked for help in encouraging people to help them make <br />Redwood City a race -free zone. <br />Nicholas Brooks stated his concerns regarding the enforcement of immigration laws <br />with tougher penalties, the security of the nation's borders, and the nation's sovereignty. <br />He asked that the Police Department be trained in proper procedures to enforce our <br />immigration laws. <br />JOINT CITY COUNCIL /REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD AND APRIL 23, 2007 <br />PUBLIC FINANCING AUTHORITY MEETING MINUTES PAGE 2 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 61 <br />Page No. 378 <br />
