<br />REPORT <br /> <br />6.10 <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the Ci Mana er <br /> <br />June 25, 2007 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Purchase of one 10-ton telescopic crane truck <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve by motion the purchase of one 10-ton telescopic crane truck in the amount of <br />$213,900.96, from Coast Crane of San Leandro, CA. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Public Works Services Department has one 19-year old crane truck which is used <br />daily for multiple purposes such as laying of sewer and water main pipes, setting our <br />Bobcat Loader down into creeks and culverts for cleaning, lifting of pumps and motors <br />from all pump stations, and responding to any emergency street light pole knockdown. <br />The integrity of this crane truck has diminished over the years due to its heavy usage <br />and is scheduled to be replaced. <br /> <br />The Public Works Services Department developed vehicle specifications for the <br />scheduled replacement of this crane truck. The City Clerk advertised the bid invitation <br />with copies of the bid being mailed to four vendors. The one bid received was opened <br />by the City Clerk on Wednesday, May 23,2007, which is summarized as follows: <br /> <br />Bidder I Bid Amount <br />Coast Crane $213,900.96 <br />Recommended Bidder: Coast Crane of San Leandro, CA <br />Substantiation: Coast Crane of San Leandro, CA has proven in the past to be experienced and reliable <br />and staff considers their bid to be a good and responsive bid. <br /> <br />Staff contacted the three crane companies who did not bid and received the following <br />responses: (1) I was on vacation when bids were due; (2) our company is in Texas and <br />we don't have a service and maintenance shop in California; and (3) the crane we <br />manufacture would not have met specifications. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />Do not approve the purchase of this crane truck. However, due to the heavy usage of <br />this truck, it soon might not pass its required annual state certification test and would <br />subsequently have to be dead lined. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds for the purchase of this crane truck were approved and appropriated by the City <br />Council in the Fiscal Year 2006/07 Equipment Replacement Fund budget in the amount <br />of $201,345. The remaining balance of $12,555.96 will initially be financed from <br />retained earnings in the Equipment Replacement Fund. This amount will be <br />
