CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />To perform firefighting and fire prevention activities in protecting life and property; to operate <br />and maintain firefighting apparatus and equipment; to provide medical assistance; to perform <br />minor station maintenance; and to participate in a wide variety of training to maintain task <br />skills. In addition, as a Paramedic, provide Advanced Life Support first responder pre- <br />hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance to victims of accidents, <br />injuries or illness. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> <br />General supervision is provided by a Fire Captain. <br /> <br />Ability to exercise limited supervision. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES <br /> <br /> Firefighter <br /> <br /> 1. Drive and operate fire apparatus. <br /> <br /> 2. Respond to fire, rescue, medical and other public service calls. <br /> <br /> 3. Operate a wide variety of specialized manual/powered tools, hose and ladders under <br /> hazardous conditions. <br /> <br /> 4. Maintain all tools and equipment. <br /> <br /> 5. Operate a variety of specialized medical equipment before and during emergency <br /> situations. <br /> <br /> 6. Participate in a variety of training relating to all types of emergency and non-emergency <br /> responses. <br /> <br /> 7. Participate in fire prevention inspections and pre-fire planning. <br /> <br /> 8. Participate in Fire Prevention education and public relations. <br /> <br /> <br />
