<br />REPORT <br /> <br />6.1C <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the Cit Mana er <br /> <br />July 9, 2007 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Award af Contract - 2007 Water Tank Exterior Recaating Project <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve J by motion, the contract documents and award the contract for the 2007 Water <br />Tank Exterior Recoating Project to the lowest responsible bidder, Redwood Painting of <br />Pittsburgh, California, for their low bid of $271,100. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />In 1996, the City performed a rehabilitation project for various steel water storage tanks <br />which included repainting of tank interiors and/or exteriors, installing flexible connectors, <br />and anchoring tanks to foundations. Since then, some of the above ground storage <br />tanks have been vandalized and have defects which could potentially diminish the <br />tank's lifespan if not mitigated. <br /> <br />The proposed project will provide new exterior coating to the following above ground <br />welded steel water storage tanks: <br /> <br />1. Easter Bowl - Near California Way and Summit Way <br />2. Wilmington - Near Wilmington Way <br />3. Glenloch - Near Glenloch Way and Hillcrest Way <br />4. Cambridge #1 - Near Cambridge Way and Harte Drive <br />5. Cambridge #2 - Near Cambridge Way and Harte Drive <br />6. Easter Cross - Near California Way and Summit Way <br />7. Peninsula Tank - Near Redwood Shores Parkway and Shell Parkway <br /> <br />The work associated with the project includes removal of the entire exterior coating and <br />recoating the Easter Bowl storage tank, and spot repairs to exterior tank walls, roofs, <br />and inlet/outlet piping of the other six tanks. <br /> <br />Seven (7) bids were received at the bid opening on June 20, 2007 which are <br />summarized below. <br /> <br />Bidder Bid Amount <br />Fix Painting Co. $434,000.00 <br />RPI Coating, Inc. $372,570.00 <br />Olvmpus & Associates $352,815.00 <br />BlastcO, Inc. $329,500.00 <br />State Painting Co. $316,800.00 <br />Techno Coatings $301,136.00 <br />R~dwQQgp.~Jnting , .', .' .. $271JQQ.QQ.. <br />Enaineer's Estimate $299,000.00 <br />Recommended Bidder: Redwood Painting <br />Substantiation: Redwood Painting is the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. <br />
