Since immigration is currently a very hot topic among the general public,
we would like to propose to you that we partner with the City to present a series of
educational meetings covering several aspects of Immigration this fall. There are so
many misunderstandings and myths surrounding this issue, we see this as an opportunity
to bring some clarity to the topic. We visUalize two outcomes from these meetings.
First, that an educated public will write their state and national legislators for meaningful
and workable immigration reform. Second, that the conununity might recognize some
action that could be done on a local level to improve the immigration situation.

Weare proposing a series of three educational meetings, beginning in October and
ending prior to Thanksgiving. The topics to be covered would be:
1. V ariousaspects the economic impact of immigrants on society.
2. What are the CUITent laws? Why do so many come illegally?
3. Local Impact --- What are the needs?
What services are available, both public and private?

The League will arrange for the Speakers and produce fact sheets on the topics. We are
hoping that Redwood City would be willing to provide a venue such as Carrington Hall
and help us to publicize the event. We feel that an effective way to get the word out on
these events will be through the faith communities and the schools.

At this point, we have a broad outline for these meetings and would welcome your inputs.
We look forward to working with you.

Respectfully,

fV3~ xS~

Barbara Boles, president
L WV South San Mateo County Education Fund
368-4766, bab@codoniX.com

Serving Atherton, East Palo Alto.
