<br />9A <br />Page 8 <br /> <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />To coordinate and direct the overall administrative activities and operations of the City; <br />to advise and assist the City Council, exercising independent judgment and initiative; <br />and to serve as the City's Personnel Officer, Purchasing Agent, and Executive <br />Director of the Redevelopment Agency. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> <br />Policy direction is provided by the City Council. <br /> <br />Responsibilities include direct and indirect supervision of the various departments. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES <br /> <br />1. Direct and participate in the development and implementation of goals, <br />objectives, policies, and procedures. <br /> <br />2. Direct the preparation and administration of the City budget. <br /> <br />3. Prepare long term plans of capital improvements with plans for their financing. <br /> <br />4. Confer with department heads concerning administrative and operational <br />problems; make appropriate decisions or recommendations. <br /> <br />5. Prepare and submit to the City Council reports of finances and administrative <br />activities; keep City Council advised of financial conditions, program progress, <br />and present and future needs of the City. <br /> <br />6. Oversee the enforcement of all City ordinances. <br /> <br />7. Interpret, analyze, and explain policies, procedures, and programs. <br /> <br />8. Represent the City in the community and at professional meetings as required. <br /> <br />9. Coordinate City activities with other governmental agencies and outside <br />organizations. <br /> <br />10. Select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff. <br /> <br />11. Perform all duties as may be prescribed by City Council action. <br /> <br />1 <br />
